Ever since I was a kid, I dreamt of becoming an inventor. I got first place in an 8th grade invention competition and I was hooked. Every shower thought or dream I had, I would jot down the idea on my phone or in my notebook.
But I never knew how to make my ideas come to life.
Which is why I eventually went to engineering school to learn how to make things work. I learned such valuable things, but I realized several of my prototypes were missing crucial design elements. I am a native Ohioan, but I "went down south for some higher education" (thanks Trace Adkins). I desired to be a well-rounded designer to be able to create products from start to finish.
It was a leap of faith, but I knew I would regret it if I didn't at least try. While pursing my Masters in Industrial Design at Georgia Tech, I found my passion for the toy and game industry. One of my professors was a real life inventor for both small and big companies and I wanted to do the same. From there, I cultivated every project centered around play and learned as much as I could.
After graduation, I attended 3 toy and game conferences (Dallas Toy Preview, NY Toy Fair, and Chicago POP). I was designing and inventing toys and games for almost 2 years looking for licensing agreements before I realized something. The more inventors I met, the more I saw how much I could help them. Not many inventors come with an engineering or design background and usually pay big money to get their ideas made. That's when I had an idea.
Having my own business was a passion project of mine for many years, but it was hard to balance with a full time job. As difficult as it was, I was laid off from my job in October 2023. But realistically, it was a blessing in disguise. I had several emails and messages from my coworkers saying "go and design the next big toy or game!" They knew my love for the industry and it was the push I needed.
Design is not just a job. It is my life's passion. I'm genuinely looking forward to helping out as many people, inventors, or companies as I can.
I received my first non-provisional patent in 2022 on a toy I designed back in graduate school. What an amazing feeling!
The scholarship that opened so many doors for me. I was granted the opportunity to fly out to my very first big conference in Dallas, TX to pitch my toy and game ideas. I met so many amazing people there that I still talk to today.
Thanks to my first connection I made out in Dallas, Dave Yearick, I was granted the opportunity to go to two more toy and game conferences to keep learning and making connections in the industry. These were the 2023 New York Toy Fair and the 2023 Chicago People of Play (POP) Event!
I have been a member since 2019 and it is an amazing community to be a part of. I wouldn't be where I am today without this group.
I am currently serving as a mentor on ADPList.org, and after just a few months, I was given this award for the class of April 2024. I am truly honored to be selected for this by the members of ADPList!
I officially closed on my first townhome in July 2023! I never thought I would be able to do it, but I was so blessed throughout the entire process. It was perfect timing.
I have an unhealthy obsession with escape rooms. So much so, I keep a running list of how many I've done and my win percentage. Currently at 30 escape rooms with an 80% escape rate.
More to come :)
I get made fun of a lot because I don't own a TV. People always ask me "what do you do in your free time then - stare at a wall?!" But honestly, I usually read a lot, spend time outdoors, clean, or complete tasks on my to-do list.
Growing up I was always involved in sports. I played softball and basketball in high school, and went on to play basketball in college all 4 years. I now found a love for sand volleyball and we are so close to bringing home the trophy. Next season!
Being a redhead, you would think I wouldn't like the sun. But boy do I LOVE it. If I can be outside doing anything in some sunshine, I am a happy camper.
I'm known for my trunk full of games. Anywhere I go, I am ready for a game night! You can count on me to plan the best parties for any occasion.
I love all things travel! I recently went on a trip to South Africa to visit some friends. There I bunjee jumped off a cliff and kissed a hippo! I've also been skydiving and solo white water rafting.
